The Argentina Program Manager serves as the principle contact to government agencies, other conservation organizations, foundations, private companies and the academic community. He/she may play a leading role in donor identification, cultivation and stewardship for the program. He/she disseminates best practices, provides training and analyses to best implement organizational measures of success, and develop key partnerships with public & private organizations in order to identify and resolve technical issues and to widely communicate solutions, innovative scientific methods, analysis, tools and frameworks to address the natural system needs. He/she establishes the Conservancy as a major conservation partner within the area of responsibility, defines conservation priorities in the area of responsibility in close partnership with the Conservation Manager of the country, leads and manages team(s) which supports and improves conservation efforts, and builds strategic, scientific, and technical capacity in the field. He/she engages local community support for local conservation efforts, negotiates complex and innovative solutions with government agencies and landowners to conserve and protect natural communities, and develops and implements conservation strategies. He/she is responsible for ensuring operations of TNC in the country, ensure the professional development of the staff, support the program of “Valued and Effective team”, and prevent disruptions and accomplishment of conservation and revenue objectives. The Argentina Program Manager is responsible for the funding of the whole program and its finance, with support from the revenue and finance team.
RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE
- Geographic/programmatic: Argentina but with frequent interactions with other countries in the Region, US Chapters, Regional and global structures.
- May be responsible for leading or co-leading a whole system/regional initiative including different countries.
- Recruits, retains and manages high quality and effective multi-disciplinary staff with responsibility for performance management, training and career development.
- Broad management and leadership responsibility for 10+ staff members, both internal and external to the organization.
- Develops long-term strategies and achieves strategic goals and objectives
- Financial health of the program, build annual budget, and financial follow up
- Fundraising for the whole program, working close to the Revenue team
- Lead the conservation strategy for the country, that is build working closely with Conservation Manager of the country
- May work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain, and under physically demanding circumstances.
- Makes independent strategic decisions frequently based on analysis, ambiguous information, experience and judgment.
- Require frequent travel domestically and/or internationally and evening and weekend hours.

- BA/BS degree and 10 years’ experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience) in: conservation practice; environmental management; water or hydrological resources management; managerial functions related with corporate sustainability, institutional relations or environmental affairs; direction of governmental agencies of environment, water, natural resources, agriculture, or similar fields;
- Preferable with technical background in environmental or water management related areas with post grade studies and/or experience in dealing with institutional relations or business administration;
- Fundraising experience, including identifying donor prospects and donor cultivation
- Project Management experience
- Experience in dealing and negotiating complex agreements with different types of stakeholders;
- Experience directing a major program or project of strategic importance, including management/supervision of multi-disciplinary teams and meeting deadlines.
- Experience working with current trends and practices in relevant discipline(s) and geographic regions. Specific knowledge of water related issues in Argentina.
- Supervisory experience, including motivating, leading, setting objectives and managing performance.
- Experience in partnership development with non-profit partners, community groups and/or government agencies.
- Experience in negotiating

- Experience influencing, developing and implementing conservation policy and plans at the state or country level.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Multi- lingual and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.
- 10-12 years’ experience in conservation practice, management of complex business, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Developing practical applications of scientific concepts and technical innovations for conservation purposes.
- Communicating clearly via written, spoken, and graphical means in English and Spanish.
- Politically savvy.
