Project Overview:
 
Implemented by University Research Co., LLC (URC), the USAID | PMI Defeat Malaria Activity works to strategically reduce the malaria burden and control artemisinin-resistant malaria in target areas, contributing to the long-term national goal of eliminating malaria in Myanmar.
 
Roles and Responsibilities:
 
Reports to the Senior Technical Director/DCOP. Key roles and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Supports the COP and Senior Technical Director/DCOP with technical leadership of the project related to malaria control and elimination interventions;
  • Works closely and coordinates with the Senior Technical Director/DCOP to ensure the implementation of activities at the operational level as well as review, assessment and development of tools, SOPs, training materials, and design and implement OR studies;
  • Works closely with the monitoring and evaluation team to monitor progress and conduct analyses of malaria prevention, control and elimination activities;
  • Provides as needed technical assistance to the NMCP on reviewing and updating malaria policies, guidelines and tools;
  • Supports coordination of technical inputs covering Case Management, SBC/MMPs, PPP and vector control within the National Malaria Strategic Plan 2016-2020 and the National Malaria Elimination Plan 2016-2030;
  • Works closely with Senior Technical Director/DCOP to support field implementation of all malaria prevention, control and elimination activities;
  • With the Senior Technical Director/DCOP, builds strategies for developing capacity of the NMCP at national level in support of malaria elimination.
Minimum Qualifications:
 
Required Experience & Qualifications 
  • Medical degree and/or Master’s Degree in public health, epidemiology, international health or related discipline;
  • A minimum of seven years of experience implementing public health programs, with at least four years of experience in malaria control and prevention;
  • Experience and/or understanding of best practices in malaria control and elimination and adapting them for implementation in a developing country context required.
Desired Experience & Qualifications 
  • Experience with malaria control programs in the Greater Mekong Sub-region is strongly preferred;
  • Experience and/or understanding of the Burmese health systems context preferred;
  • Strong analytical, communication and diplomacy skills.
