Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the Translator, Arabic will be responsible for the following duties: 

•Translates documents.
•Transcribe and translate video and audio recordings. 
• Revises translations submitted by other Unit members when required
•Provide interpretation when necessary. 
•Performs other related duties as required.

Provides accurate and complete translation of a wide range of documents and interpretation, when necessary.

Education
A first-level degree from a university or institution of equivalent status in languages, translation, law or other relevant subject.
Work Experience
At least five years of professional translation and interpreting experience is required. Relevant language experience within the UN System is desirable. Relevant work experience in the African or Middle Eastern regions is desirable. Relevant work experience in field operations in conflict/post-conflict zones is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, a perfect command of English and Arabic is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
