Responsibilities
Creates and produces designs for promotional and information materials which convey the Office’s messages in appropriate format and in several languages. The products include quality print and digital materials, such as social media, branding materials, infographics, publications and other visual products. Conceptualizes and develops design proposals to be reviewed by clients, including photographic, illustrative or more abstract graphic solutions. Prepares all approved designs in electronic ready-for-production format for final review and printing; ensures proper colour management and reviews colour and print proofs as required. Uses information provided by the client to create infographics and icons to help communicate complex information in an aesthetically appropriate manner which adequately conveys the client’s message.

Participates in meetings to discuss design options, technical specifications, costs, schedules/deadlines; assists in the preparation and drafting of project budgets and work plans; prepares submission schedules for various communications products. Provides guidance and support throughout the project production process. 

Ensures all products, including visual elements for campaigns, comply with OHCHR’s visual identity including the Brand Manual, copyright rules and UN standards for print and visual materials. Provides advice on brand issues, including OHCHR's logo, and on the use and updating of the Office Brand Manual. Ensures the adherence to brand identity and copyrights rules.

Makes typographic and orthographic corrections to the text when needed; finds photographs and illustrations, in the image library or online, that will help to formulate and communicate the client's objectives.

Plans and organizes the work, oversee execution of the plans, and modifies them as necessary, ensuring that projects are on schedule and well managed.

Performs other related work as required.
Competencies

Knowledge of standard industry production and printing processes, including desktop publishing, design and layout with relevant graphics software (Adobe Creative Suite). Knowledge of photography, videography, page layout, photograph sizing and colour management. Proven ability to produce high-quality graphic material.

Education
High school diploma or equivalent. Specialized training in Graphic Arts supplemented by a diploma or certificate is desirable.
Work Experience
Seven years of experience in graphic design and layout of print and digital media is required. Experience in producing graphic design products in the Adobe Creative Suite is required. Experience in publications production and desktop publishing is desirable. Experience in creative graphic effects and animation is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English is required and knowledge of French is desirable. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
