Chemonics seeks a curriculum study consultant for a one-month assignment to review the content of curricula in the Levant in the context of 21st century skills and inclusive pedagogy. The consultant will identify areas to ensure the curricula is relevant for learning at all levels and provide input for improving the curricula to prepare students for the 21st century. Importantly, textbooks are a key part of the teaching and learning process and their content should be rigorous and understood to identify areas for development. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.

Responsibilities include:
  • Propose a study methodology and work plan in the first week.
  • Prepare an inception phase brief for Chemonics
  • Review curricula against a shared understanding of international standards and best practice
  • Identify areas for development in the curricula to ensure content is relevant, age-appropriate, and supports learning at all levels
  • Provide input on the extent to which a formalized curriculum would prepare students for life in the 21st century, and what changes could be made to increase its impact in this regard 
Outputs:
  1. Inception phase brief of no more than 10 pages outlining agreed methodology and work plan for the review, as well as limitations
  2. Prepare a paper of no more than 50 pages, excluding annexes, in English and Arabic outlining the review (e.g., background, methodology, and limitations, key findings, and recommendations based on identification and review of the versions of curricula currently in use in schools
  3. Matrix outlining all examples of content that is not conflict-sensitive or not aligned with international standards
All three outputs will need to be reviewed and agreed with Chemonics before completion of the assignment.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in education, development, or a related field
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of education systems in the Levant
  • Experience conducting curriculum reviews in other contexts
  • Background in managing, implementing, or evaluating education projects in the Middle East and North Africa
  • Understanding of education in emergencies preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
  • Fluency in both Arabic and English required
