Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Chief, the incumbent will provide substantive support as follows: -Gather, select and analyze data contained in communications and publications received from different sources, including the media regarding implementation of Security Council resolutions 1373 (2001), 1624 (2005), 2178 (2014), 2354 (2017) and other relevant Security Council decisions on counter-terrorism. Maintain up to date knowledge of events relating to political issues in general and in particular counter-terrorism related issues.-Conduct analysis and research using both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies. -Monitor and report on actions taken by government and non-governmental organizations. - Collect the analytical reports, at their different stages, prepared by the Legal Officers for the CTC and its Subcommittees’ review and ensure their timely circulation. Assist in preparing legal documents setting up the arrangements for the organization of capacity-building workshops and seminars, including events related to terrorists’ use of the internet. -Participate in provision of secretariat services to the CTC, sub-committees, conferences, meetings etc, including the following: a) Ensure the expeditious processing, submission and circulation of reports, draft letters and final letters and all other relevant documents to Committee members, other UN Member States and the CTED legal officers, as appropriate; b) Assist in the preparation and organization of Special Meetings of the CTC with International, Regional and Sub-Regional organizations including those related to terrorists’ use of the Internet. - In consultation with senior Officers, respond to requests for briefings and information on the work of the CTC, and assist in responding to relevant inquiries submitted to the CTED e-mail address. - Perform ad hoc duties as required.

Education
A first-level university degree in political science, international relations, international economics, law, public administration or other related area.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in political science, international relations, law, disarmament, security, development management, conflict resolution, public administration or related area. Experience with organizing conferences and public events is desirable. Experience with counterterrorism issues is desirable. (No experience is required for candidates who have passed a United Nations Competitive Recruitment Examination).
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English (oral and written) is required. Knowledge of another UN languages is an advantage.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
