I.  Position Information
Position Title:  National Project Coordinator
Grade:            SB4
Project title:    Support for the Protection of Child Victims of Rights Violations
                       Project – PAPEV
Location of the structure: UN-OHCHR/WARO
Place of employment:      Banjul, Gambia / UNDP
Duration:                          12 months’ renewable

Administrative structure
This position is located in Banjul-Gambia and will be located in the premises of UNDP/GAMBIA
The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of the UNDP Country Director in Gambia and the Project Regional Coordinator in Dakar, Senegal and under the overall supervision of the Regional Representative of the United Nations Office of the Higher Commissioner of Human Rights, West Africa Regional Office, based in Dakar, Senegal.

Duties and Responsibilities
Responsibilities:
The incumbent will be in charge of coordinating and monitoring the implementation of the project activities in Gambia, under the close supervision of the UNDP Gambia Country Director, and the regional coordinator of the project. In particular, the incumbent will be responsible for the following specific tasks:
· Design and coordinate planning and implementation of project activities at national level
· Provide technical expertise on the conformity of the national legal framework with                    international legal instruments for the protection of the rights of the child.
· Provide technical and legal assistance to Gambia's government partners to improve Gambia's legal framework and policies for the protection of the rights of the children’s            under international legal instruments;
· Support government partners to better mainstream children's rights into policies and programs in line with the SDGs and the African Union Agenda 2063
-  Contribute to the development of a national strategy for the reintegration and retention of children victims of trafficking in their families of origin
·  Support reception and care centers in the implementation of the national strategy for the         reintegration and maintenance of children victims of trafficking in their families of origin;
·  Coordinate the planning and implementation of project activities at the national level
·  Write reports and minutes of activities and meetings held as part of the project
-  Carry out any other compatible tasks that may be assigned to you by the UNDP Resident Representative Director, the Project Coordinator, and or the Regional Representative of OHCHR-BRAO.

  • In-depth knowledge of Human Rights, in particular the rights of the children
  • Good knowledge of national policies and programs related to the rights of the children

  • Respect the instructions given by the regional coordinator of the project based in Senegal and report on activities on a regular and sustained basis.

Required Skills and Experience
VI. Recruitment Qualifications/Eligibility Criteria
  • Education and Work experience:
  • A minimum of four years of relevant professional experience in human rights related fields of      activity, particularly in the field of children's rights.
  • Good knowledge of international, regional and national legal instruments and mechanisms for    the promotion and protection of the rights of the child.
  • Knowledge in project design, implementation and monitoring, as well as in international              cooperation would be an asset.
  • Good knowledge of the computer tool, Excel and other relevant software.
Language:
  • English and French are the two working languages ​​of the United Nations Secretariat.
  • For the advertised position, fluency in oral and written English is required and working knowledge of French will be required.
