Job Vacancy Notice ADVANCED TECHNICIAN FOR SCIENTIFIC METROLOGY OF MASS _____________________________________________________________________________________ The International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM) in Sèvres near Paris, France, is an intergovernmental organization with the role to provide the basis for world-wide uniformity of measurements through the International System of Units (SI). It has an international staff of about 74 and its annual budget is about 13 million euros. Further information about the BIPM can be found on the website: www.bipm.org. The mass laboratory of the Physical Metrology Department plays an important role in international mass metrology by organizing measurement comparisons between National Metrology Institutes of the Member States and by providing them with mass calibrations at the highest level of accuracy. The BIPM is seeking to hire an advanced technician for the following post: Main duties and responsibilities  carrying out weighings of 1 kg mass standards, used as national standards by the member states of the BIPM, with an accuracy at the microgram level, requiring subtle control of top class mass comparators;  carrying out density determinations of mass standards using a hydrostatic balance;  maintaining and improving the complex measurement systems;  supporting colleagues in research and development activities. Required competences  practical experience in the field of mass metrology, acquired either in a metrology laboratory or in the weighing industry;  skill and care in manipulating mass standards made from precious metals in a clean environment, and to operate accurate mass comparators and instrumentation;  experience with data analysis and programming languages, in particular Labview;  capability to pay attention to detail and to work methodically and rigorously;  capability of working proactively and autonomously;  maintaining good relations, to ensure efficient interaction with internal and external partners;  capability of working in a team within a multicultural environment. Required profile  This job vacancy is suitable for an advanced technician familiar with the principles of mass metrology, with at least two years of experience, ideally from an organization or a company working in mass metrology or related scientific research;  At minimum a diploma at the level of DUT or BTS (2 years of professional education) with specialization in physical metrology or equivalent;  good knowledge of written and spoken French or English, and the willingness to acquire a working knowledge of the other. Employment conditions The BIPM offers a fixed-term appointment, full-time basis, of up to five years, which could be transformed into a permanent post, under the conditions and restrictions described in the BIPM Staff Manual. The initial probationary period is three months, renewable once for a period of three months. The annual basic salary will be between 27 720 € and 35 080 €, depending on experience, and will be supplemented by various allowances specific to individual circumstances and family situation, as described in the BIPM Staff Manual. Salaries and allowances are exempt from national income tax in France. The BIPM offers a pension scheme and subscribes to private medical insurance for its staff and their families.
