Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the Political Affairs Officer will be responsible for the following duties:

• Liaise with designated Units/Division and other Department of Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO) and Department of Field Support (DFS) interlocutors and external partners to ensure the Office of the Assistant Secretary-General support for the Office of Rule of Law and Security Institutions (OROLSI) initiatives.
• Liaise with the designated partners to coordinate and assist with the implementation of partnership activities with OROLSI Units.
• Coordinate inputs from the OROLSI Units/Division to relevant documents and reports.
• Draft correspondence and prepare briefing packages and talking points for meetings and travels for the Assistant Secretary-General (ASG).
• Manage staff selection processes.
• Monitor and inform colleagues of relevant initiatives across the UN system.
• Represent OROLSI in Integrated Operational Team (IOT) support group and ensures that OROLSI units are appropriately engaged in each IOT.
• Responsible for negotiating office space for OROLSI.
• Coordinate input to Talking Points for the Under-Secretary-General, DPKO and the Secretary-General.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Education
Advanced university degree (Masters or equivalent), preferably in political science, international relations, law, human rights, public administration or related fields. A first level university degree, together with two additional years of qualifying experience, may be accepted in lieu of an advance degree.
Work Experience
At least five years of progressively responsible experience in international affairs, including at least two years experience in peacekeeping or political affairs within an international or regional organization. Field experience in a peacekeeping setting is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the internship position fluency in English (both oral and written) is required. Knowledge of French is an advantage.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
