Under the overall leadership of the OCHA Head of Office, and direct supervision of the Local Security Associate, and accountability to the OCHA Security Focal Point, the Security Guard provides reliable safety and security services to OCHA Syria. The Security Guard demonstrates a client-oriented approach, high sense of responsibility, courtesy, tact and the ability to work with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.
Duties and Responsibilities
Under the day-to-day supervision of the Local Security Associate, the incumbent will perform the following duties:
  • Provide security coverage at the entry points of a OCHA premises and/or annex to prevent entry to unauthorized persons and the unauthorized removal of OCHA property;
  • Stop suspicious bags, packages or persons entering the building and report it immediately to the Local Security Associate;
  • Maintain alertness for any potential or actual breach of security and any disturbance or unusual activity;
  • Report to the Local Security Associate all safety and security related issues and comply the directions of the Security Focal Point;
  • Assist the Local Security Associate in real emergencies and during building evacuation drills;
  • Report immediately to the Local Security Associate any difficult situation with any visitor;
  • Several daily patrols of all office facilities and monitoring any changes impacting the safety of staff, monitoring all fire extinguishers validity, reporting to the Local Security Associate;
  • Managing front desk coverage, identify all staff, maintaining a daily log book for registering attendance and exit times; monitoring daily visitor’s logbooks, and archiving the data, including planning alternate replacement for absence periods;
  • Act as telephone switchboard operator with appropriate protocol, weekly checking and testing all lines, providing updates on the OCHA telephone list, UN Directory, Addresses of the Government, International Organizations, Embassies, and NGOs and other important contacts. Seeking solution of minor technical problems, and requesting telephone service providers for regular maintenance and repairs;
  • Maintain a log book for registering OCHA visitor’s names, IDs, time in and time out; providing “Visitors’ ID Card” to OCHA visitors keeping identity cards of visitors at entry point; accompanying VIP visitors to the Resident Representative and Country Director, their Deputies Officers and staff member offices;
  • Maintain a Dispatch/Receipt book, for all incoming and outgoing mail, and deliveries from suppliers;
  • Inventory of all OCHA PPEs, including distribution and movements;
  • Assist in the Weekly Agency Radio Check by staff;
  • Collecting data for preparing the daily overview and staff head counts reports;
  • Assist the Local Security Associate by sending advisories through SMS when required;
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Experience
Education:
  • High School graduate is required.

Experience:
  • 3 years of experience in Safety and Security reception services is required;
  • Experience with UN Agencies is an asset.

Language Requirements:
  • Good Knowledge of English and Arabic are required;
