About the HR Specialist Position
Reporting directly to the Global HR Manager, the HR Specialist will be responsible for performing special projects and assisting with general HR administration regarding talent acquisition and management, compensation and benefits, employee relations, legal compliance, HRIS administration and other human resources functions.
Essential Duties:
  • Support full-cycle recruitment, including but not limited to posting of employment ads, conducting preliminary screening, scheduling of interviews, and conducting reference and background checks.
  • Maintains 350.org’s applicant tracking system.
  • Oversees the preparation of offer letters, employment contracts, benefits packets and other employment related information.
  • Sends, tracks and process new hire paperwork.
  • Coordinates onboarding process, including but not limited to employee orientation, laptop purchase, and email and Slack set-up.
  • Serves as a point of contact to 350.org staff regarding compensation, benefits, policies and procedures, and other HR related questions and issues.
  • Updates Job Descriptions as needed.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of policies and procedures.
  • Coordinates the HR aspects and/or requirements of country/state registrations.
  • Prepares reports including monthly and quarterly HR reports, EEO, Form 5500 and other compliance reports.
  • Assists with system administration of various HR systems, including HRIS, ATS, Benefits System, etc.
  • Coordinates offboarding activities such as exit interviews, handoffs, etc.
  • Coordinates and set-up HR related trainings or meetings.
  • Support HR and managers in documenting and addressing performance and other employee relations issues.
  • Prepares, maintains, manages, and audits paper and electronic personnel files in accordance with record retention and audit policies.
  • Assists with identifying and implementing practices designed to streamline and improve internal procedures, including the creation and maintenance of related process documentation.
  • Performs administrative duties as necessary, including filing, copying, data entry and preparing draft correspondence.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned.
Public Engagement:
  • Understand 350.org’s history campaigns, and theory of social change, and keep current with basic climate science and policy. From time to time, use this knowledge to represent 350.org's perspective in varied public venues based on geographic location and areas of expertise.
  • From time to time, contribute work towards 350.org's overall mission that is outside of standard responsibilities and instead relies solely on geographic location or work capacity.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong knowledge of international, local, state, and federal employment laws and regulations.
  • Excellent project management skills.
  • Prior experience supporting talent acquisition and management, employee relations, and benefits administration.
  • Must be organized and detail oriented, accurate, and able to prioritize and anticipate deadlines.
  • Able to interact with individuals from diverse backgrounds with sensitivity and professionalism.
  • Willingness to work with cross-cultural and remote teams from different time zones.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Be comfortable juggling multiple priorities and tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Able to exercise sound judgment in making decision to act or escalate.
  • Able to identify and recommend improvements in processes.
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
  • Flexibility, enthusiasm, resiliency, and a good sense of humor are helpful traits.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of two (2) years experience in Human Resources is a must.
  • Proficient in human capital management systems, applicant tracking systems, and other HR systems.
  • Previous work experience in an international NGO preferred.
  • PHR or SHRM-CP Certification preferred but not required. 
Position Type:  This is a full-time exempt position. The position requires legal authorization to work in the United States.

Location: This position is based in Brooklyn, NY with some flexibility to work from home.
Compensation: $50,000- 60,000 USD, 100% employer-paid insurance (with 90% dependent coverage), generous vacation and sick leave policies, flexible work schedule, and more.
